The cat came back the very next day

Ed and I were on our way out the door. Ed was headed to the gym, and I was headed to the pool. We were running late (read: I was running late) as the pool closes at 9:00. Anyway, Ed calls back to me: there's a cat out here. I walk up to the door and screech. It was right at the door pawing to get in. This was the second time in a week that I have been freaked out by a cat. Another one crossed our path (bad luck, no?) and I yelped in its presence a few days ago.

Anyway, Ed tried to coax it out of our landing and she would have none of it. Why do I know it is a she? After staring at her belly, I am pretty sure she is pregnant or just gave birth...

Finally a neighbor came by with some cat food. Apparently our friend had been bothering them as well. She left to have a bite.

On the way back from the pool, I do a drive by. No cat, phew. I have no idea where this fear has come from, but I did not want to have to deal with her getting into the house. So I go to CVS and go home. About 10 minutes later I hear the door rattle which scares the sh*t out of me. I soon discover the damn cat is back. Ed is not home. I ask the cat to please leave and go have her babies elsewhere. She does not leave. The porch light is out so it is totally dark. All I see are eyes in the darkness. She seriously freaks me out and I don't know why. I am not scared of any other animals--I love them!

Ed made a comment when driving me to the pool that he had never seen a cat act like that--that he really felt she was in need to approach us like she did. So I started to feel bad for the damn cat and got it some water. Which I sneaked out and quickly shut the door and locked it.

The cat was still there when Ed came home. We decided to just let her be. She was not there in the morning.

She is a pretty cat. I thought about keeping her, even though she freaks me out and I don't like cats. My relationship with our new friend is complicated. We really don't have room for another being in our house though.

I felt for the first time in a long while that I was not at all equiped to be useful in the situation. I wonder if this is what parenting is like.

Anyway, this morning I posted on craiglist about the cat. Hopefully someone will claim her.

  • Maybe my fear of animals is catching? I should never have breathed on you at your shower.

  • Last weekend a big white stray cat showed up in our yard and just sat there under our bird feeder. No lie.
